A moment of silence for all the Kiwi foods sent to the junk food graveyard in 2022

Our childhood is slowly fading away and I'm not ready for this...

It is with great sadness that I share with you today the list of all of our cherished Kiwi food that has been stripped from the shelves. Whether you are a sweet tooth or love a savoury snack, the loss of our childhood faves is more than devastating.

They may be gone from the shelves, but they’ll forever be in our hearts! So, here’s a list to forever remember all the kai we lost in 2022.

Le Snak
After a good 34-year stint making their mark here in NZ, the good ol' kiwi snack Le Snaks was discontinued back in June. We were gutted, to say the least, this is devastating news. The cracker and cheese dip combination was looked forward to by thousands upon thousands of Kiwi kids every morning for tea and lunch.

Airwaves Gum
Unfortunately, it’s true Airwaves joined Le Snaks in the junk food graveyard back in August and you are no longer able to purchase the intense chewing gum that will make your brain freeze until it’s numb.

This is devastating news. The eucalyptus and menthol slap in the face was both enjoyed and suffered by many, and I don’t think anything else comes close to the sensation we felt when biting down on the sinus-clearing, tear-producing gum.

Sadly the damage is already done, and your freshest breath days are over.

L&P Brown Bottle
After 115 years, New Zealanders must brace themselves for a significant change in how the Lemon and Paeroa fizzy drink appears in our stores.

Yep, Coca-Cola NZ announced they’re considering replacing the famous brown bottle with a non-coloured, more transparent version. However, it's leaving us for a good reason. In a statement, Coca-Cola NZ shared that they are driven to create change and that the new look for the L&P packaging is in the works.

At least we have the giant L&P statue in Paeroa to remember the good times, right?

Tip Top’s Goody Goody Gum Drops and Cookies and Cream
The most recent devastating news was that TipTop has decided to discontinue selling their 2-litre tub of Goody Goody Gum Drops.

If you’re like me, this is a HUGE blow to my childhood and I’ve been struggling to recover, however, we still have our precious Cookies & Cream to delve into right? WRONG!

They’ve gone and bloody taken the two best flavours away from us. I mean it is for the cost of production reasons and that makes total sense but how am I supposed to get through the week without smashing back a 2L tub in one sitting?! All the joy in my life is gone…

Gone but never forgotten! R.I.P and remember no other snacks will fill the hole in my heart, ahem, belly.
