'You were a sh*t shoplifter': John Campbell grills Golriz Ghahraman about stealing scandal

The former Green MP is owning up to her "bizarre behaviour".

Former Green MP Golriz Ghahraman is owning up to the "bizarre behaviour" that saw her shoplift nearly $9k worth of clothing from high-end stores earlier this year.

In a new interview with John Campbell, the 43-year-old gets real about what was going on in her head before and during the stealing spree, plus where she's at now.

In a trailer for the conversation, which TVNZ says isn't edited, JC takes no prisoners, asking Golriz: "It's the stupidest thing, isn't it?"

"It's the stupidest thing," Golriz agrees.

"I don't mean to be rude or make light of it, but you were a shit shoplifter. You were really a dismal shoplifter," John adds, noting how small one of the boutiques she stole from was, and how there were "cameras everywhere".

"I was in there for like 40 minutes," Golriz responds. "it was bizarre behaviour."

To John's comment that there was "no way" she would ever have gotten away with the theft, Golriz explains:

No, but that's what self sabotage looks like. It's not like you want to get away with it.

She also acknowledges that her sabotage "hurt others".

It's no coincidence that the interview dropped today, the same day Golriz was sentenced for her crimes. She was denied her request for a discharge without conviction, and the judge imposed $1600 worth of fines as well as court costs of $260.

The full interview is online on TVNZ+ now.
